Steve Schmidt launches “Donald Trump Hates You” campaign ahead of 2026 midterms

Former Republican strategist Steve Schmidt announced the Save America Movement’s “Donald Trump Hates You” campaign, featuring a banner-towing plane over the Florida panhandle and posters in Washington, DC.

Steve Schmidt, a former Republican operative and co-founder of the Lincoln Project, unveiled a new initiative by the Save America Movement called “Donald Trump Hates You.” He announced that a plane bearing the message will fly across the Florida panhandle today, with additional posters slated for Washington, DC during the Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend. Schmidt argued that under current Republican leadership, both the House and Senate are enabling Trump’s unpopular policies and appointments, which he claims undermine the Constitution.

He referenced one outlet Fact Checker count of more than 30,000 false statements by Trump and accused the former president of inciting state violence and attempting to overturn the election. The campaign also highlights alleged anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, and anti-Black sentiments expressed by Trump, and even suggests Trump despises his own supporters. Schmidt concluded that voting for a candidate who “hates you” is detrimental, urging voters to recognize the alleged hostility before the 81-day countdown to the midterm elections.

Why it matters

The campaign signals a coordinated anti-Trump push that could influence voter sentiment ahead of the 2026 midterms.
