Stockton council candidate charged with perjury and false voter registration over bar address

City council hopeful Desiree Lynch was arrested on five felony counts, including perjury and false voter registration, after allegedly listing a dive bar as her residence.

Desiree Lynch, a candidate for Stockton City Council District 5, was taken into custody on five felony charges that encompass three counts of perjury, a false voter registration count, and a count for filing a false nomination. Investigators determined she lived in District 1 but listed the address of Harry’s Cocktail Lounge on E. Charter Way and the Doyle Garden Apartments on E. Oak Street as her residences to meet district residency requirements.

The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office described her actions as an attempt to manipulate the electoral process. Lynch posted $100,000 bail and could receive a sentence exceeding six years. Mayor Christina Fugazi had urged her to suspend her campaign, a request she ignored shortly before the arrest. She is scheduled to appear in court at the San Joaquin County Superior Courthouse.
