Stolen Motorbikes Spark Fatal Shootout and Manslaughter Convictions in Queensland
A 2021 motorbike theft clash in Ipswich turned deadly, leaving Carlo Piero Stewart dead and three men pleading guilty to manslaughter.
In July 2021, Carlo Piero Stewart attempted to recover stolen trail bikes that had been sold to Brayden Alan Wilson-Knight in Ipswich, west of Brisbane. The dispute escalated at Wilson-Knight's North Booval residence, where Wilson-Knight armed himself with a.22 calibre handgun and was joined by Tye Joshua Bickle and a 16-year-old. After a confrontation, Bickle obtained the gun and discharged ten shots within seven seconds, killing Stewart, who had been shot in the thighs and back.
The trio fled, were struck by a small SUV, and were later charged with murder before pleading guilty to manslaughter and two counts of grievous bodily harm each. Victim impact statements highlighted Stewart's family loss, while defence counsel argued mitigating circumstances. Justice Peter Callaghan has reserved sentencing until October 1, and Wilson-Knight and Bickle remain in custody.
