Stora Enso to Shut Veitsiluoto Sawmill in Kemi, Cutting About 60 Jobs

Stora Enso disclosed that the Veitsiluoto sawmill in Kemi will be closed for good, resulting in the loss of approximately 60 jobs. The move comes after the company completed its change negotiations and decided to concentrate northern Finnish sawmill activity at its other facilities. The closure is part of a broader strategy to boost the efficiency, profitability and competitiveness of its sawmill business, which faces challenges such as high timber costs.

Employees at Veitsiluoto had been placed on temporary lay-off, and production will not resume after one outlet lay-off period ends. Following the restructuring, Stora Enso's Oulu unit will still employ around 840 workers across its cardboard plant, sawmills and port operations in Oulu, as well as at its Oulu and Kalajoki sawmills.
