Storm Boelo to unleash 80-mph gusts and widespread travel chaos across northern UK

Storm Boelo is expected to bring gusts over 80 mph to Scotland, northern England and parts of Northern Ireland, causing major ferry, rail and road disruptions.

A new low-pressure system named Storm Boelo is set to batter the northern United Kingdom with wind gusts that may top 80 mph, according to a Met Office meteorologist. An amber wind warning has been issued for Scotland, and similar disruptions are forecast for the far north of England and parts of Northern Ireland over the next 24-36 hours. Travelers should expect ferry cancellations and widespread delays on trains and major roadways.

The National Grid reported that engineers have restored power to over 60,000 households following the earlier Storm Austen, which also caused outages in the south. Officials stressed the need for rain in the drought-hit south, while urging the public to stay clear of downed power lines and report them promptly.
