Storm Boelo to unleash 80mph gusts, causing widespread travel chaos across Britain

Storm Boelo is expected to hit most of Great Britain with winds over 80 mph, prompting major disruptions to ferries, trains and roads, especially in northern regions.

Storm Boelo is set to batter most of Great Britain with wind gusts that could top 80 mph, according to Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan. He warned of extensive travel disruption across Scotland, northern parts of Northern Ireland and the far north of England for the next day and a half, including ferry cancellations and rail service reductions. Network Rail Scotland announced that services south and west of Kilwinning will cease from 9 pm Saturday, with additional closures on the Oban, Mallaig, Kyle of Lochalsh-Achnashellach and Wick-Helmsdale lines.

Craig Gorman of Network Rail Scotland said safety will be prioritised despite the impact on passengers’ plans. The storm follows Storm Austen, which left at least 30,000 homes without power, and has already caused a portion of Brighton’s West Pier to collapse into the sea. Authorities also reminded the public to prepare for potential injuries, flying debris and further power cuts.
