Storm-strength gusts batter Denmark, trees topple across several regions
Storm-strength gusts swept across Denmark on Sunday, toppling trees and prompting traffic warnings.
Sunday’s weather brought storm-strength gusts to Denmark, beginning over northern Jutland before moving toward Djursland, Funen, Zealand, Lolland-Falster and Bornholm, DMI’s on-duty meteorologist Anja Bodholdt reported. The intense wind caused multiple trees to fall on motorways E20, E45 and local roads, prompting traffic assistance and reduced speed recommendations. Bridge operators warned that the Lillebæltsbroen and Storebæltsbroen faced strong winds, with the latter banning trailers under 2.5 tonnes.
Rainfall totals reached 10-15 mm in western parts of the country overnight, while Zealand saw 5-10 mm and scattered showers elsewhere. The Danish Meteorological Institute also issued alerts for storm-force gusts in North Jutland and on the island of Læsø, plus a forecast of elevated sea levels on the Jutland west coast through Monday. Emergency services received numerous reports of fallen trees throughout the day.
