Storm Triggers Tree Falls, Gridlock and Hawker Closures Across Klang Valley

Yesterday, intense rain in the Klang Valley brought down trees that blocked the North Klang Valley Expressway near Jalan Duta-Bukit Lanjan and in the Damansara Damai neighbourhood, leaving only one lane usable and causing long queues that stretched to the Sungai Buloh Hospital exit. Social-media posts showed drivers stranded as branches and trunks littered the road. Hawker vendors in the area were hit hard; a takoyaki seller apologized for cancelling orders, while a banana fritter stall announced a two-day closure after its tent was damaged.

Community members, including motorcyclists, stepped in to cut and move the fallen trees, helping to reopen the northbound lanes of the North-South Expressway. In Klang Sentral, a passer-by assisted a driver whose car was stranded in rising water. The incident highlighted both the vulnerability of transport infrastructure to weather and the quick grassroots response of local commuters.
