Strong winds across the Netherlands cause road blockages and event cancellations
Severe gusts linked to low-pressure system Boelo knocked down trees, poles and a construction scaffold, disrupting traffic and forcing the termination of an Amsterdam music festival.
A powerful wind system named Boelo swept the Netherlands overnight, toppling trees, utility poles and construction equipment and creating dangerous situations on several roads. The N207 near Alphen aan den Rijn was closed after a tree fell, and in Gouderak an electricity pole obstructed traffic. In Huizen a building scaffold was blown away, while a neighbourhood in Nijeveen was cut off when a tree landed on the street.
The weather forced the early shutdown of the Into the Woods festival in Amsterdam, as organizers said tents could not protect attendees from the gusts. The national weather service KNMI warned that coastal provinces and the Waddengebied could see wind speeds of up to 100 km/h, maintaining a yellow alert through Sunday night and possibly into Monday. The storm is expected to ease in the southern regions by Sunday evening.
