Student brandishes knife at LA high school, prompting lockdown and chase

At approximately 12:30 p.m., a teenage boy walked into the quad of Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets high school and WISH Academy charter school carrying a large knife. A second teen approached and was struck before the armed student chased him, causing a wave of panic among students who fled the area. The Los Angeles School Police Department responded quickly, placed the campus under a shelter-in-place order, and took the knife-bearing student into custody.

Parents expressed anger over delayed notifications and concerns about a child possibly locked in a hallway during the lockdown. The student who was attacked received a minor cut, and the Los Angeles Unified School District affirmed that no one else was injured and that normal instruction has resumed. Additional police patrols will continue around the campus as a precaution.
