Student death at Rajasthan Technical University sparks protests and police clash

A first-year IT student from Jaipur was found dead in his RTU hostel, prompting students to protest and police to use force.

A first-year information technology student from Jaipur was found dead in his hostel at Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) in Kota, sparking a student uprising. While the university suggested a possible cardiac arrest, classmates insisted the death resulted from a snakebite and criticized the campus dispensary’s 2 am closure and limited doctor availability. They demanded chief warden DK Yadav’s removal, alleging his negligence contributed to the tragedy.

Police tried to persuade the demonstrators to disperse, but after some participants allegedly threw stones, officers used force to break up the sit-in. Additional superintendent Subhash Chandra Mishra reported that students also wanted the vice-chancellor present to hear their demands; after several rounds of discussion, the vice-chancellor agreed to some requests, though not all. The protest ended with assurances that an impartial investigation, including a post-mortem report, would determine the cause of death.
