Student journalist’s tip sparks deep dive into non-consensual porn forum

A tip from student reporter Lance Bustos led to a months-long investigation of the NSFWPH forum, exposing its operations, jurisdictional hurdles and victim impact.

The investigation originated when student journalist Lance Bustos approached the author with information about the NSFWPH forum and started applying OSINT techniques to track usernames, links and timestamps. Over the following months the reporters documented the community’s norms, rewards and harmful content, noting parallels with other extremist platforms. Technical analysis revealed that the site used Cloudflare, obscuring the operator’s location and raising jurisdictional challenges for Philippine authorities.

The team also interviewed a victim who stressed that responsibility lies with the perpetrators who breach trust. Since publishing the report, additional victims have reached out, expanding the scope of the inquiry. The case underscores the difficulty of holding foreign-hosted illegal sites accountable and the need for clearer legal frameworks.

Why it matters

It shows how online abuse can evade local law and why investigative journalism is vital to protect victims.
