Student kidnapped, threatened with knife and extorted after late-night cab ride in Mumbai

An 18-year-old university student reported being forced into an Uber, threatened with a knife and robbed of Rs 14,250 before being released.

On the night of Oct 10, 18-year-old first-year student PA Agarwal was allegedly forced into an Uber after dropping his aunt’s daughter and three friends at a girls’ hostel in Vile Parle. Three men, identified as Azad Maniyar, Dipesh Chavan and Mondaya Devendra alias Kishan, allegedly assaulted the driver, threatened Agarwal with a knife near Juhu Ruia Park and stole Rs 5,250 from his trouser pocket. They further coerced him to transfer Rs 5,000 and later Rs 4,000 to one outlet account, even making him call his sister for the funds.

The trio were tracked through the e-wallet transaction and apprehended at hideouts in Andheri within 12 hours. The Juhu police filed charges of kidnapping, extortion and robbery against the three history-sheeters.
