Student protester’s ₹5 lakh peace bond notice withdrawn the same day
Akshat Tripathi, a Gautam Buddha University student, was served a show-cause notice demanding a ₹5 lakh bond for campus peace, but the order was cancelled later that day.
On September 4, the Greater Noida Executive Magistrate served a show-cause notice to Akshat Tripathi, a student at Gautam Buddha University, demanding a personal bond of ₹5 lakh plus two equal sureties to ensure campus peace for six months. The notice cited sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and alleged that Tripathi encouraged peers to join a political protest at Jantar Mantar, spreading anti-government sentiment and creating a volatile environment that could disrupt law and order.
He was slated to appear before the Assistant Commissioner of Police’s court on September 5. Later that day, police announced the notice had been withdrawn. Tripathi, originally from Prayagraj and residing in Greater Noida’s Ecotech-1, rejected the allegations, asserting he participated peacefully and was not attending classes during the protest, and he also claimed injury during a July 20 police action. The Students' Federation of India condemned the magistrate’s move as repressive.
