Student-visa carer sentenced to 12 years for raping vulnerable Bristol patient
A 25-year-old Pakistani carer on a student visa was convicted of raping a bedridden woman in Bristol and received a 12-year prison term.
Fazli Qadeer, 25, traveled from Peshawar to Bristol to pursue university studies while employed as a carer. Exploiting a period when the client’s family was away, he entered the home of an elderly, bedbound woman, climbed onto her bed, expressed romantic intentions, and proceeded to kiss, touch her breasts and commit oral rape. During the trial he denied the allegations and tried to portray himself as the victim of a sexual assault.
The jury convicted him of rape, and the judge imposed a 12-year custodial sentence, added a restraining order, and ordered a post-sentence immigration status review by the Home Office. Mitigation highlighted his difficult upbringing and a letter of apology, while the victim described ongoing nightmares and fear of further attacks.
