Students in England can now view GCSE and BTEC results on a new app
On Thursday, pupils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will receive their GCSE and BTEC results, with more than 750 English schools offering an app for instant access.
Pupils across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will obtain their GCSE, BTEC and other Level 2 results on Thursday, with a new digital option for students at more than 750 English schools. While schools will still hand out paper envelopes, the Education Record app will allow grades to be viewed from 11:00 BST onward, creating a permanent record for future college and employer reference. The initiative aligns with the Department for Education’s strategy to boost technical education and curb the growing number of English and maths GCSE resits.
In the previous year, 67.4% of GCSE entries earned a grade 4/C or above and over 360,000 vocational qualifications were awarded. Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced plans to introduce subjects like manufacturing and artificial intelligence from Year 10 onward. Resits for English and maths are scheduled for November and May/June, with colleges typically entering students when ready. The government also intends to launch a new qualification to support those repeatedly retaking exams.
Why it matters
The app gives students faster, digital access to exam results and supports the push for more technical education in England.
