Study finds Apple and Google news feeds only feature outlets that backed Democrats
A conservative watchdog reports that the top outlets promoted on Apple News and Google News have never endorsed a Republican presidential candidate since 1988.
Researchers from the Media Research Center examined the top-ranked stories on Apple News, Google News and Microsoft’s MSN between late 2025 and mid-2026. Their review revealed that the five most-prominent outlets on Apple News - several outlets - have collectively endorsed Democratic presidential candidates 28 times since 1988, with no Republican endorsements.
Google News’ leading sources - several outlets and The Atlantic - recorded 27 Democratic endorsements and none for Republicans. MSN’s top five outlets showed a modestly broader mix, with one outlet backing George H.W. Bush in 1988 and 1992, while the other outlets favored Democrats.
Apple and Google did not respond to requests for comment, and Google reiterated that it disputes the methodology of the study. The findings add to ongoing scrutiny of tech platforms’ role in shaping political news exposure.
Why it matters
The report suggests that major news aggregators may limit exposure to conservative viewpoints, influencing public discourse.
