Study Finds Many Switch to Cigarettes When Trying to Quit Vaping
Research from the UK and a New Zealand survey show that some people turn to smoking as a way to stop using e-cigarettes, despite misconceptions about health risks.
A British study identified smoking as the second-most common option for those seeking to quit vaping. Complementary data from a New Zealand questionnaire indicated that a notable share of former vapers begin smoking when they attempt to quit. Researchers attribute this trend to misunderstandings about the dangers of cigarettes versus e-cigarettes. While both products deliver nicotine, the harmful effects of cigarettes stem mainly from inhaling smoke containing tar, arsenic and other chemicals. E-cigarette vapor, though not harmless, is still regarded as the less damaging alternative.
