Study projects up to $40.6 billion economic boost from LA28 Games

A new analysis says the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games could generate as much as $40.6 billion in economic output and support roughly 224,000 jobs in the region.

A study commissioned by LA28 and conducted by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation projects that the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics could produce up to $40.6 billion in economic output and create up to 224,000 jobs across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. The analysis uses a conservative spending model and an IMPLAN input-output model, covering costs for Games operations, transportation, security, capital projects and visitor activity.

Infrastructure investment tied to the event, estimated at about $8.35 billion, is identified as the largest impact driver. The report expects 2 million visitors, with direct non-resident spending ranging from $1.6 billion to $4.3 billion, and predicts $5.1-$5.9 billion in combined tax revenue. LA28 intends to allocate 75% of its addressable procurement to Greater Los Angeles businesses, reserving 25% for local and small firms. Stephen Cheung, President & CEO of the LAEDC, emphasized the broad reach of the projected benefits across the regional economy.
