Sudan Rights Coalition Calls on UN to Reveal Foreign Backers of the SAF

During the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, a Sudanese coalition of human-rights groups urged the council to disclose the countries and entities that are providing support to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in the civil war that began in April 2023. The coalition, represented by Abdelbagi Jibril of the Sudan Centre for Knowledge, also called for the renewal of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan to keep investigating and preserving evidence of war crimes.

It cited the mission’s recent finding that foreign-supplied combat drones and loitering munitions have expanded the SAF’s long-range strike capability, including use against civilian locations like Yabus Market in Blue Nile State. While welcoming the mission’s third report on external support networks, the coalition criticized its methodology and the premature release before investigations were complete. It urged the council to address all states and entities providing aid to either side without selectivity. The appeal underscores the war’s toll of tens of thousands of deaths, millions displaced and an estimated 20 million people facing hunger, while General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan vows to continue fighting the RSF.
