Sudanese national with 61 criminal records remains in Germany over missing paperwork

Mohamet E., a Sudanese man flagged in 61 police records for serious crimes, has not been deported because authorities lack a required replacement passport document.

Mohamet E., a Sudanese citizen who entered Germany in 2015, has been subject to over 60 police entries for crimes such as drug dealing, robbery and dangerous assault, and has served multiple prison terms. Authorities have struggled to confirm his true identity, recording him under more than 16 different names and personal details. Although classified as an enforceable departure case since 2018, he remains in the country because the lower Saxony authorities lack a required replacement passport document, a gap the interior ministry has not clarified.

The situation is highlighted in a series of leaked internal files that expose how many serious offenders, including murderers and terrorists, have not been expelled due to bureaucratic obstacles. The documents also suggest systemic issues within the deportation office, including staffing shortages and political entanglements.

Why it matters

The case shows how administrative gaps can keep dangerous individuals in the country despite deportation orders.
