Sulu Province Declared Stable After Decades of Conflict
Sulu was officially proclaimed to have achieved Stable Internal Peace and Security on Sept 24, following a resolution that says insurgent groups are no longer a threat.
The proclamation was made at a ceremony in Pagadian City’s provincial gymnasium, citing the dismantling of rebel formations to a non-threat level. Governor Abdusakur Tan II led the event, which was attended by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., former Interior Secretary Rafael Alunan III, Vice Governor Abdusakur Tan and senior military officials. The declaration stems from Provincial Peace and Order Council Resolution No. 3, Series of 2026, marking the first formal recognition of stability in the province.
Why it matters
The peace declaration ends long-standing conflict in Sulu, paving the way for development and stability.
