Sumar threatens cabinet walkout over half-measures in new housing decree

Mónica García, Spain's health minister and a member of the Sumar coalition, announced that her party will not back a tentative housing decree and is prepared to stage a protest in the Council of Ministers. In a televised interview, she called for bold measures to curb speculation, targeting loopholes in seasonal rentals and contract renewals that allow “vulture funds” to profit. García dismissed recent tax reductions and promises of large-scale construction as insufficient solutions.

She emphasized the urgent plight of families struggling to afford homes and young adults unable to achieve independence. The minister said Sumar has been negotiating with the PSOE for months and will continue to press for a comprehensive real decree that fully addresses the crisis.
