Sungai Gurun river exceeds danger level, flash floods hit two villages

Heavy rain pushed Sungai Gurun in Kampung Perupok above the danger threshold, causing flash floods in Kampung Teroi Bukit and Kampung Titi Teras.

Continuous heavy rainfall for over two hours caused Sungai Gurun in Kampung Perupok to breach its danger level, with the water reaching 4.43 m according to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s Infobanjir portal. The surge led to flash flooding in the neighboring villages of Kampung Teroi Bukit and Kampung Titi Teras, affecting 11 and eight houses respectively. Lieutenant (PA) Zul Izzi Zulkifli of the Civil Defence District said no temporary evacuation centre has been set up so far.

He urged residents to monitor the flood early-warning system and to prepare for possible evacuation if the river continues to rise. Authorities are currently keeping watch over other flood-prone areas in the district.

Why it matters

Residents in the affected villages face immediate flood risk and may need to evacuate.
