Suno introduces tiered download caps to curb mass export of AI-generated tracks
AI music platform Suno will limit monthly downloads for free and paid users starting Sept. 3, aiming to deter large-scale misuse of its service.
Suno announced that, effective Sept. 3, it will impose download limits across all tiers of its AI music generator. Free users may download up to seven songs in total, the $8-a-month Pro plan allows 20 downloads each month, and the $24-a-month Premier tier grants 60 monthly downloads, with unlimited access for Suno Studio users. Additional downloads can be purchased beyond these caps.
The measures stem from a settlement with Warner Music Group and aim to prevent mass-export of AI-created tracks. Suno also intends to add watermarks to downloaded files and is rolling out new label-backed models that promise faster generation and higher audio quality. The company continues to face copyright lawsuits from Universal Music Group and Sony Music, and a German court recently ruled against it for violating U.S. and German copyright laws.
