Suns forward on Brooks' extension as DUI charge looms
Dillon Brooks, fresh off a three-year, $73 million extension with Phoenix, faces a misdemeanor DUI charge after a March incident.
Phoenix signed Dillon Brooks to a three-year, $73 million extension in August, securing him through the 2029-30 season. Days before training camp, prosecutors in Scottsdale filed a misdemeanor DUI complaint tied to an incident from March, leading to his brief detention, mug-shot and release around 3:30 a.m. The Suns' senior vice president of communications said the club had already dealt with the issue and offered no further comment.
The new charge follows a January stop where Brooks was cited for reckless driving after allegedly traveling 85 mph in a 45-mph zone. Brooks entered the season after posting career-best averages of 20.2 points in the regular season and 26 points in the playoffs. The legal matter adds uncertainty as the team prepares for the 2026-27 campaign.
Why it matters
Brooks' legal issues could affect his availability and the Suns' plans for the upcoming season.
