Super Micro contractor admits to illegally shipping Nvidia AI servers to China

A contractor linked to Super Micro Computer pleaded guilty to exporting Nvidia AI servers to China in violation of U.S. export rules.

In a Manhattan federal court, Ting-Wei “Willy” Sun, a contractor associated with Super Micro Computer, admitted guilt to a conspiracy that exported AI servers containing Nvidia’s B200, H100 and H200 GPUs to China. The indictment alleges the scheme started around 2024 and employed a Southeast Asian intermediary to mask the Chinese end-users, breaching U.S. export regulations that require licenses for such technology. Authorities estimate the illicit shipments were worth roughly $2.5 billion.

The plea follows earlier charges against Sun and two other Super Micro affiliates, including a co-founder. The incident underscores Washington’s recent tightening of export controls on advanced AI hardware due to national-security concerns. Super Micro’s shares fell slightly in extended trading after the filing.
