Supplier says faulty defibrillator and confused call may have led to singer's death

Detailed statements from the provider of the automatic external defibrillator used at the Κολωνάκι clinic add new layers to the investigation of singer Γιώργος Μαζωνάκη's death. Supplier Γιώργος Αδαμόπουλος said a nurse called at 16:26 reporting that the device, bought in July 2022, was not operating and that its battery—rated for three years—had only just been placed inside. He noted the staff did not inform him that a patient required the shock, and the call, which lasted roughly one minute, ended with a vague thank-you.

The supplier suspects the defibrillator failed because of the battery issue. Family attorney Χαράλαμπος Λυκούδης described the malfunction as criminal, saying a timely battery change might have saved the singer, and announced plans to prosecute any clinic personnel who try to hide the circumstances, while noting that emergency responders (ΕΚΑΒ) arrived after a prolonged cardiac arrest.
