Supply teacher sentenced to six years for upskirting pupils and sharing images online

Abusali Rahman, a supply teacher, received a six-year prison term for secretly photographing girls’ skirts at seven Greater Manchester schools and posting the images on X.

A supply teacher named Abusali Rahman was sentenced to six years in prison after an investigation revealed he covertly photographed the skirts of teenage girls at seven secondary schools across Greater Manchester. Over an 18-month period, he targeted at least 15 pupils, some as young as 13, using a mobile phone concealed in his pocket and later uploaded the images to an X profile with roughly 1,000 followers. The scheme was uncovered when a mother recognized a photo of her daughter’s friend, prompting police to trace the content back to Rahman.

He admitted to 21 child sex offences, including the creation of AI-generated explicit images, and was also subject to a 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Detectives highlighted the abuse of his position of trust and expressed concern over the use of AI to fabricate further illicit material. The case involved Greater Manchester Police, Bolton Crown Court and the victim schools in Bury, Bolton and Salford.

Why it matters

The case shows how teachers can exploit trust and how AI deepfakes complicate child sexual abuse investigations.
