Supreme Court asks Goa government to respond to Tarun Tejpal’s conviction challenge
The Supreme Court has sent a notice to the Goa government after former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal contested his 10-year rape conviction.
Tarun Tejpal filed a petition challenging the Bombay High Court’s August 6 ruling that upheld his conviction for sexually assaulting a junior colleague in a Goa hotel elevator in 2013. The Supreme Court bench sought the state’s reply to his appeal. The high court had earlier reversed a trial-court acquittal from May 2021 and imposed a fine of over Rs 10 lakh payable to the survivor. Tejpal surrendered on September 14 following a Supreme Court directive and was placed in Central Jail at Colvale.
