On Friday, the Supreme Court annulled every FIR lodged against Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia and additional parties for statements that mocked people with disabilities on the television program India’s Got Latent. The issue returned to the bench in March 2025 after Raina reiterated the controversial remarks while appearing on a show in Canada, leading Justice Surya Kant to warn him not to take the court lightly. The justices also rebuked the pair on July 14, 2026, for allegedly ignoring earlier directives.
Bar and Bench reported that the court’s latest order fully clears the defendants of the criminal charges. This decision highlights the judiciary’s role in balancing free expression with respect for vulnerable groups. No further legal action was indicated.
