Supreme Court Halts Ban on Controversial Noncitizen Voter Database
The Supreme Court paused a lower-court order that prohibited the Trump administration’s voter-verification database from being used to flag potential noncitizen voters.
A federal appeals court had barred the administration and election officials from employing the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database to identify noncitizens on voter rolls. Last month, the Supreme Court issued a stay, allowing the tool to remain in use. After the Department of Homeland Security upgraded SAVE, more than twenty states uploaded their voter lists and generated suspect lists for further scrutiny.
