Supreme Court orders Haryana police to arrest bail-granted murder suspect after his celebratory march

During a hearing on September 8, Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta of the Supreme Court condemned murder-accused Vishal for organizing a “victory procession” after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him bail on April 23. The court pointed out that a non-bailable arrest warrant issued in August remained unexecuted and that Vishal had not been taken into custody, prompting an order for the superintendent of police, Charkhi Dadri district, Haryana, to enforce the warrant and ensure his appearance before the court on September 21.

The judges also directed that Vishal must surrender before any further bail hearing. The underlying case involves an October 27, 2022 altercation between Vishal and the family of complainant Rajbala over the construction of tin sheds on a disputed plot, during which Vishal allegedly struck several people with a lathi and an axe, causing multiple injuries and one fatality. He had been detained for over three years before the bail decision. The court’s directive underscores the judiciary’s intolerance for bail-related intimidation and the need to enforce arrest warrants in serious criminal matters.
