In New Delhi, the Supreme Court admonished the Odisha administration for its indecision on the remission plea of prisoner Dara Singh. Justices Manoj Misra and Vijay Bishnoi expressed displeasure after the state requested a four-week adjournment citing the illness of its advocate-on-record. The court set a firm deadline of Sept 17 for a definitive ruling and said no further adjournments would be granted.
It also highlighted that the State Sentence Review Board had yet to issue a decision, and the court would compel an order if the board remains inactive. The bench emphasized that the state must either grant or deny the remission, ending the prolonged limbo.
