Supreme Court rejects demand for ethanol-percentage labeling at fuel pumps and receipts
The Supreme Court turned down a petition that sought mandatory disclosure of ethanol content in petrol at stations and on purchase bills.
The apex court refused to hear a request for compulsory ethanol-content labeling on fuel dispensers and receipts. The filing also called for a vehicle-specific E20 compatibility database, an expert impact review, and a transition plan for cars that cannot use the blend. With the dismissal, existing labeling practices remain unchanged.
Why it matters
Consumers remain uninformed about the exact ethanol mix in their fuel, affecting choices and potential vehicle compatibility.
