Supreme Court to hear challenge over massive Delhi voter roll deletions on Sep 21

The Supreme Court agreed to examine a legal challenge concerning the Special Intensive Revision of Delhi's voter list, setting the hearing for September 21. Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, will preside over the case, which also includes other SIR-related matters. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioner, contended that the Election Commission did not reveal the identities of the 3.3 million voters who were served notices or the specific grounds for their removal.

The draft electoral roll, released on August 31, shows that 4.7 million names were struck from the total of 1.45 crore registered voters, roughly one in three voters in the capital. The poll panel cited reasons such as migration, absence, death, and duplicate enrolments for the deletions.
