Supreme Court urges confidence as it orders protection of protesters and metro services
The Supreme Court told senior advocate Kapil Sibal that public confidence is essential and ordered authorities to stop illegal detentions during the CJP protests, while ensuring metro and internet services remain functional.
During a special session addressing the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party protests in Delhi, the Supreme Court highlighted that the confidence of people like Kapil Sibal is vital for its role in combating injustice. The bench, comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, directed the government to halt any illegal detention of individuals participating in peaceful gatherings and to ensure that metro services continue without interruption.
It also called on the Solicitor General to safeguard internet access, while reaffirming that powers under the Information Technology Act remain intact. Additionally, the court ordered the removal of a notice board announcing the application of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita near the court complex. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing RJD MP Manoj Jha, welcomed the order, saying it restores faith in the justice system.
