Surge of over 60 tremors rattles Southern California, strongest near Westmont
More than 60 earthquakes struck Southern California on Saturday, with a 2.7-magnitude quake hitting Westmont early in the morning and a 2.6-magnitude tremor later that day.
Saturday saw a sudden burst of seismic activity across Southern California, totaling over 60 quakes, most of them below magnitude 2.0. The most notable events were a 2.7-magnitude tremor in Westmont around 2:30 a.m. and a 2.6-magnitude quake in the same vicinity at about 4:30 p.m. The United States Geological Survey reported a concentration of these shocks in South Los Angeles.
