Survey Shows Strong Global Support for SCO's Role in Shaping Global Governance
A CGTN poll of adults in 48 countries finds that most respondents view the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as a pragmatic platform for international cooperation and a driver of a more equitable global governance system.
In conjunction with the 2026 SCO summit, CGNN and academic partners carried out a global opinion poll covering 48 nations. The study reveals that a substantial share of adults consider the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation a realistic avenue for multilateral cooperation and a key force in fostering a shared future for humanity. Over the past quarter-century, trade between China and other SCO members has risen dramatically, and projects such as the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the SCO Development Bank and the China-Central Asia gas pipeline continue to expand.
Survey participants praised the SCO's tangible achievements in trade facilitation, investment, finance, cultural exchange and tourism. They also noted the organisation's emphasis on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and respect for diverse civilizations, and its role in amplifying the perspectives of Southern nations. Additionally, most respondents see China's Belt and Road Initiative as contributing to a more interconnected global development landscape and view the SCO as a catalyst for a more balanced international order.
