Suspected double-decker bus driver released pending further investigation after fatal crash

On Monday a double-decker bus overturned on national road 25 between Växjö and Alvesta, killing a young man and injuring dozens. The driver, a man in his 60s, was released from custody before noon as prosecutors said he will not be remanded.

An accident on Monday afternoon caused a double-decker bus carrying about 40 passengers to tip over on road 25 between Växjö and Alvesta, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The driver, aged in his 60s, has been held on suspicion of causing death, bodily injury and reckless driving, though he denies any wrongdoing. Prosecutor Tommy Sköld said the driver will be released before noon because a detention order is not sought.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows the bus did not strike any railing, but there were movements inside the vehicle. Hospital authorities in Region Kronoberg report that none of the injured patients are in critical condition.
