SUV crashes into stopped vehicles on 605 Freeway, causing fatal pileup

A gold SUV slammed into cars halted after an earlier crash on the northbound 605 Freeway, killing one person.

Police records show the first crash on the northbound 605 Freeway near Cerritos was reported at roughly 12:30 a.m., leaving several vehicles immobilized in the left lanes while a tow truck worked nearby. Approximately twenty minutes later, a gold SUV entered the scene at speed and collided with the halted cars, causing a fatal pileup. Authorities confirmed that one person was killed after becoming trapped inside a vehicle, though the victim's identity and the specific car involved were not disclosed.

The collision prompted a SigAlert, leading to the closure of the HOV lane and three additional lanes. Crews cleared the wreckage, and all lanes were reopened by about 4:45 a.m.

The crash caused a fatality and major traffic disruption on a key Southern California freeway.
