Swedish authorities flag extensive cross-border money-laundering scheme

Swedish officials have uncovered a network of dubious transactions linked to companies from Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Russia, highlighting vulnerabilities in the country's corporate system.

A recent investigation by Swedish law-enforcement agencies identified a series of suspicious financial flows involving firms based in Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Russia. Officials say the scheme exploits the ease of establishing companies in Sweden and relies on fabricated invoices. The operation is described as a complex web of thousands of entities and identities that has grown over time. Lena Palmklint of the Economic Crime Authority warned that Sweden’s corporate environment makes it attractive for such illicit activity.
