Swedish citizenship exam results show strong pass rate after new requirements
The first citizenship test in social studies, held in Älvsjö, has been graded and most candidates received a passing score.
In response to stricter citizenship criteria introduced on 6 June, Sweden administered its inaugural social studies citizenship exam in Älvsjö. After a two-month grading period, the Universitets- och högskolerådet announced that most of the 875 participants achieved a passing result. Program manager Andreas Sandberg highlighted that the test satisfied the required quality and that the agency prioritized a legally sound and equitable assessment.
Candidates who do not pass this first attempt will be given a subsequent opportunity. The authority clarified that it does not decide who must sit the exam; that responsibility lies with the Migration Board. A follow-up exam is planned for spring 2027, while a Swedish language test has been postponed to 2029.
Why it matters
The results indicate how Sweden's new citizenship standards are being applied and affect future applicants.
