Swedish electricity prices surge to near-record levels in southern zone
The average price for electricity rose to 2.35 kronor per kWh in Sweden’s southern electricity zone, approaching a yearly high.
On Tuesday, the daily average electricity price in the southernmost Swedish market (area 4) reached 2.35 kronor per kWh, a level only surpassed once earlier in the year. Similar near-record levels were observed in area 3 and parts of Norrland, where prices ranged between 98 öre and 1.36 kronor. The spike follows a period of weak wind and the scheduled maintenance of half the country’s nuclear capacity. Analysts warn that such price spikes could become more frequent.
