Swedish fixed-rate mortgage interest averages climb sharply in September
Average fixed-rate mortgage interest in Sweden rose noticeably in September, widening the gap with variable rates, according to Zmarta data.
Data from comparison site Zmarta show that the average three-year fixed mortgage rate increased compared with August, while the five-year rate also moved higher. The variable-rate average stayed roughly unchanged. Ola Söderlind of Zmarta warned that the spread between fixed and variable rates is now unusually large, making protection against rate hikes costly for borrowers.
Why it matters
Higher fixed mortgage rates increase borrowing costs for Swedish homebuyers seeking rate certainty.
