Swedish foreign minister says Greenland pact strains NATO trust
Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard warned that the new Greenland agreement, which includes two U.S. bases, has eroded confidence among NATO allies.
Representatives from the United States, Greenland and Denmark signed a deal authorising two additional American military installations on the island while preserving its self-governance. Maria Malmer Stenergard linked earlier U.S. statements about taking over Greenland to rising suspicion within the alliance. She told Sveriges Radio Ekot that such actions undermine the trust that NATO members should share. The minister called for the allies to move beyond the dispute.
