Swedish gasoline prices jump nearly two kronor in a single day
Swedish motorists saw gasoline prices rise by almost two kronor per litre within 24 hours, while diesel sits at 22.99 kronor per litre.
Swedish drivers woke up on Friday to another fuel price hike, with gasoline climbing to 18.89 kronor per litre after a 30-öre increase, a jump of almost two kronor in a single day. Diesel prices held steady at 22.99 kronor per litre. The rise comes after a tax adjustment that lifted the gasoline levy by about one krona per litre, while diesel saw a modest increase.
Fuel retailers initially held back the full tax pass-through, but prices were raised twice on Thursday before the additional Friday increase. Analysts note that gasoline has reached its highest level in over four months, and further tax components are set to expire later in the year, potentially adding up to three kronor per litre if fully applied. Such price levels would push the cost of filling a 50-litre tank to roughly 1,100 kronor for gasoline cars and about 1,300 kronor for diesel vehicles, amid volatile global oil markets.
Why it matters
Higher fuel costs directly affect commuting expenses and inflation for Swedish consumers.
