Swedish officials clear Sea Owl 1 to depart after confirming Equatorial Guinea flag

Swedish authorities have lifted the ban on the vessel Sea Owl 1, confirming its registration under the flag of Equatorial Guinea.

The ship Sea Owl 1 was barred from Swedish waters in March due to irregularities in its registration and paperwork. After a review, officials verified that the vessel is properly registered to Equatorial Guinea, allowing it to leave Sweden. The ship’s commander, previously detained on suspicion of using false documents, was released and the investigation was closed. The vessel has previously been linked to a Russian shadow fleet.

Why it matters

It shows how maritime authorities enforce registration rules and resolve flag fraud allegations.
