Swedish officials convict three men linked to online drug marketplace Archetyp

A court sentenced three individuals for aiding severe drug offenses tied to the Archetyp platform, which operated like a legal e-commerce site but sold illicit substances.

Three defendants were found guilty of assisting in especially serious drug crimes linked to the Archetyp website, which presented itself as a conventional online marketplace while enabling sales of cannabis, cocaine, LSD and other narcotics using cryptocurrency. The site, active until 2025, attracted more than 600,000 users, 3,000 registered sellers and 17,000 active advertisements. Authorities allege that the earnings were largely captured by organized criminal gangs involved in violent offenses.

Criminal inspector Björn Eriksson highlighted the platform's similarity to legal sites like Blocket or Tradera, noting its operation on the darknet. Following the crackdown, police chief Petra Lundh urged lawmakers to create new powers to block fraudulent phone systems and restrict harmful online platforms. The court's decision marks a significant step in combating digital drug markets.

Why it matters

The ruling shows law enforcement can target sophisticated online drug networks and may prompt stronger digital crime laws.
