Swedish police warn seniors of scams while incidents hit Europe and Australia

Swedish police issued a stark warning to protect older relatives from fraud, and separate incidents saw a Lithuanian airport shut after a possible drone, a regional website outage in Sörmland, and a car plowing into a crowd in Australia.

Police in Jönköping released a public alert telling relatives to "vaccinate" seniors with knowledge about common fraud tactics, especially those targeting BankID and personal information, and warned scammers that they will be pursued. At Vilnius airport, authorities halted operations after a suspected drone was sighted, though the object remained unidentified and combat aircraft were deployed. Sörmland’s digital services, including regional portals and museum sites, experienced a shutdown, with officials unsure whether it was a cyber-attack or a technical fault.

In Australia, a 18-year-old driver crashed into a crowd of rugby supporters in Newcastle, leaving at least ten injured, three of them children, and was taken into custody without terrorism suspicion. Additional reports mentioned a hijacked flight’s co-pilot being barred from flying due to extremist searches and a tank vessel hit by an unknown projectile off Oman, though no casualties were reported.
